SEPT 5: Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh spoke with Deputy Commissioners (DC) of Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur regarding the road clearance and rehabilitation measures undertaken in districts.
Dr Jitendra Singh spoke with DC Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma and received an update that momentum has been generated in rehabilitation process and road claerance is in full swing.
Singh posted on X, “Weather has cleared today and rehabilitation process has also picked up. However, the road from Gulabgarh to Chashoti, which is a vital link to the spot which suffered the cloud burst tragedy, is still blocked and may require assistance of heavy equipment to remove the blockade. The authorities have taken up the target of getting the road cleared by late evening, and they are doing their best.”
Dr Jitendra Singh received the update from DC Kathua Rajesh Sharma that the rehabilitation measures are in progress.
Singh posted on X, “Weather conditions have improved today across the district. While the rest of the rehabilitation measures are in progress, every effort is being made to ensure that the road connectivity to Bani gets restored by this evening.”
Dr Jitendra Singh spoke to DC Udhampur Saloni Rai and received the update that for damaged houses alternatives have been pressed out.
He posted on X, “Peripheral areas like Latti etc still not accessible by road. Arrangement to carry essentials by helicopter to areas like Mogri being worked out, subject to weather conditions. For those whose houses have been washed out, appropriated alternatives being explored.”
Jammu Division had been reeeling under the inclement weather conditions since the beginning of September with torrential rians pounded parts of Jammu Division. The downpour resulted in surge in water levels and triggered landslides at Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) leaving several people stranded.
