BJP MLAs, contribute 1 Cr each, MPs 2.5 Cr, Minister Satish 2 months’ salary for flood relief support in Jmu

JAMMU: Politicians cutting across party lines have donated CDFs and salaries to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for aiding disaster and relief efforts for those affected by cloudbursts, landslides, and floods in Jammu region. All the 28 MLAs of BJP have donated Rs 1 Crore each for relief efforts. The funds will aid families affected by recent cloudbursts, landslides, and floods.
In a humanitarian gesture, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma today announced that he will be donating his two months’ salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, reaffirming commitment towards supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts. He said that such contributions, though modest, can go a long way in extending timely help to families affected by natural calamities.
“The safety and welfare of the people is our topmost priority. The government is fully geared up to respond to any situation and all possible assistance will be extended to safeguard lives and property. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our people in this hour of need”, the Minister maintained.
Meanwhile all the 28 BJP MLAs have contributed Rs 1 crore each from their Constituency Development Fund (CDF) amounting to Rs 28 crore, for relief efforts. Additionally, BJP MPs have also pledged Rs 2.5 crore each, taking the total to Rs 35.5 crore.
Couple of days Member of Parliament from Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma, recommended release of Rs 1 crore from his MPLAD funds to provide relief to people affected by heavy rains and flash floods. Sharma has written to the District Development Commissioner Jammu, directing that the funds be utilized for immediate relief measures including essentials, food supplies, and other necessary assistance to those hit by the calamity.
Leader of Opposition in J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, today expressed deep concern over the widespread devastation caused by incessant rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods that have disrupted normal life across the Jammu region. Disaster began with the cloudburst in Chashoti village on August 14, followed by another in Kathua on August 16, and further aggravated by continuous rains from August 24 to 26, leading to severe destruction in Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, and other districts.
The Union Government has already released Rs 209 crore to the UT Disaster Response Fund (UT-DRF) and constituted a high-level committee to submit a report within two days, following which a relief package will be finalized and released within shortest possible time. The Union Home Minister has also asked the CMs of other states to contribute economically to recover from this tragedy, said Sunil Sharma.
Sunil Sharma also shared that a request has been made to allow the farmers to sell the accumulated aggregates on their fields on their own. The free ration to all the affected people is requested, which will be conveyed to FCI by the Union Home Minister. He added that all the union ministers of departments related to flood affected fields, will visit and organize meetings with the J&K government.
