AUG 30: Monsoon fury hits Jammu Division again with torrential rains triggering heavy landslide in Reasi that claimed seven lives and cloudburst struck Ramban leaving three people dead and five other missing on Saturday.
A family of seven members including five children died when a massive landslide hit the house located at Bhadder village of Mahore Tehsil in Reasi and at least three people lost their lives, and five others went missing after a cloudburst struck the Rajgarh tehsil of Ramban district.
With seven people trapped under debris in Reasi, rescue teams including Police and SDRF were deployed and all bodies were recovered after aggressive searches. Reasi Administration has issued an alert and asked people to avoid staying in vulnerable structures amid inclement weather.
Besides, the rescue operation to trace the missing five people is in full swing in cloudburst struck Ramban district. It is learnt that the sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods causing widespread devastation to property.
Earlier, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh tweets, “Just now spoke to DC Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan. Cloudburst in Rajgarh area resulting in the unfortunate casualty of four persons. The fifth one is missing and the search is going on. Meanwhile, there is no injured. Rescue operation is on. Every possible assistance being provided. I am in constant touch.”
LG Manoj Sinha took to X and posted, “Anguished by the cloudburst & rain-triggered landslides in Reasi & Ramban. Condolences to the bereaved families. Spoke to Senior Officials and took stock of the situation. Rescue and relief operations are underway. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected.”
CM Omar Abdullah posted on X, “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives due to landslide in Rajgarh, Ramban. He has directed the administration to carry out immediate rescue & relief operations.”
CM said in next tweet, “Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the tragic landslide in Reasi’s Bhadder village that claimed the lives of seven family members. Taking note of the continuous heavy rains, he appealed to people to remain alert, avoid vulnerable areas, and strictly adhere to safety advisories. He has directed the district administration and disaster management authorities to remain on the ground, ensure round-the-clock monitoring, carry out timely evacuation of residents from risk-prone zones, and provide immediate relief and all possible assistance to the affected families. He has further instructed the concerned departments to remain vigilant, coordinate closely, and take every precautionary measure to safeguard lives during the ongoing inclement weather.”
