Timely push from Sajad Lone changes a life

WAJAHAT SHABIR

SRINAGAR: In a heartwarming turn of events, a Kashmiri youth who once faced the threat of preventive detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) has now cracked the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), courtesy a timely intervention by People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone.

The revelation came to light through a post shared by Lone on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he shared a copy of the student’s NEET scorecard and recounted how he had intervened to prevent the youth from being booked under the harsh law.

This is Zuber from Khumriyal. Congratulations on passing the NEET. Zuber has excelled academically. But Zuber is much more than a young boy who has cracked NEET, as Lone mentioned on X.

The life of Zuber is a story. And I too am a part of that story. And I share a special bond with him. From depths of despair a year back Zuber has bounced back and will soon embark on a career in medicine. An year back Zuber was all set to be booked under the PSA, adding that he said.

The dossier was ready. His family approached me. He is a couple of years older than my children. I don’t know what happened. But I was convinced that Zubair has to be saved. I was convinced that Zubair is special and can deliver academically and move on to have an excellent career. I believed that Zubair deserves a chance, he said.

I approached SSP Kupwara who I have to say was v apprehensive. I volunteered to personally guarantee his conduct. We talked so many times over phone and the conversation would end with disagreements. I still remember I got a call from the SSP Kupwara.

He said he had given it a thought and that he too is convinced that Zubair needs to be given a chance. And congratulations to SSP Kupwara. His decision to release Zubair means he has added a doctor to the society. I would have never have talked about this. But Zubair’s story is a story of triumph of love and compassion. Maybe there is a message in this story. I hope Our decision makers understand that message. My thanks to LG Office J&K, Sajad stated.

Without the consent of the top officials, this would never have been possible. Victory in Kashmir lies in Love and Compassion. Let us all rejoice Zubair’s success. It is a victory of the concepts of love and compassion, Lone said.

The post has garnered wide appreciation online, with many lauding Lone’s gesture and urging others in positions of influence to adopt a more compassionate approach.

Well done Sajad , you saved his life and his Family’s from worst. But many aren’t as lucky as him. I hope ppl will take inspiration from him and make the right decisions to begin with. Congratulations, said one of the users on X.
