126th Birth Anniversary of Brigadier Rajinder Singh Ji Commemorated at Rajinder Singh Park

JAMMU, June 14: A floral tribute ceremony was held on Friday at Rajinder Singh Park, Canal Road Jammu, to commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of Brigadier Rajinder Singh, hailed as the ‘Saviour of Kashmir’. The event witnessed the participation of former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta along with senior BJP leaders including Pramod Kapahi and others who gathered to honour the legacy of the brave soldier.

The programme was organized by Senior BJP Leaders Sh. Karan Singh, Kuldeep Kandhari, Rajinder Tickoo and Manav Mahajan in which senior leaders Parmod Kapahi, Arun Prabhat, Anju Dogra, Parveen Arora, Dilbahadur Singh, and Anu Rajesh Gupta were present. The event was also graced by several prominent local BJP leaders including Dinesh Gupta, Balwant Singh, Sucha Singh, Keshav Chopra, Anil Angral, Dr. Surjeet Singh, Subash Raina, Vishal Gupta, Chaman Angral, Adarsh Jathiar, Rajeev Sethi, Jasmeet Singh, Rahul Pradhan, Bhupesh Singh, Jialal, and Karan Sharma. The Canal Bazar Association President Sh. Vishal Gupta was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta said Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s courage and sacrifice played a decisive role in saving Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 when Pakistani forces, disguised as tribal raiders, launched an attack to capture the region. He said that Brigadier Singh’s story should be taught in schools so that future generations understand the valor and sacrifices of true national heroes.

Kavinder Gupta further stated that Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s legacy is not just a chapter in military history but a symbol of unwavering patriotism and duty. He said that remembering such national heroes is essential in today’s times to instill a sense of pride and sacrifice among the youth.

The former Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that it is the responsibility of every citizen, especially the younger generation, to draw inspiration from such gallant figures and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.

Brigadier Rajinder Singh, born on June 14, 1899, was the Chief of Staff in the army of Maharaja Hari Singh. When Pakistan launched its attack on October 22, 1947, Brigadier Singh led a contingent of just 100 soldiers and confronted nearly 5,000 enemy troops in the Uri sector of Baramulla. In a fierce five-day battle, he destroyed key bridges to halt the enemy’s advance and continued fighting till his last breath. On October 26, 1947, he laid down his life along with many of his comrades in defense of the motherland.

Pramod Kapahi paid rich tributes and said that Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s unmatched bravery and strategic foresight made him an icon for the Indian Army’s infantry forces in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the soldier’s actions delayed the enemy long enough for the Indian Army to reach Kashmir and safeguard it from falling into enemy hands.

Arun Prabhat said “As youth leaders, we must ensure the legacy of Brigadier Rajinder Singh Ji lives on. His martyrdom teaches us that defending our motherland is the greatest duty. Let’s work together to keep alive the stories of such heroes who shaped the destiny of our nation.”

The Vote of thanks was presented by Senior BJP Leader Smt Anu Rajesh Gupta.
