APRIL 30: A massive fire ripped through a hotel in Central Kolkata leaving at least 14 people dead on Wednesday.
Firefighters reached the spot and while battling the blaze rescued 14 bodies which were charred to death.
The cause of the devastating fire has not been ascertained yet.
A team has been formed to investigate the cause of deaths.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed grief over the incident.
On X, Murmu posted, “The sad news of loss of lives in the fire accident in a building in Kolkata is very disturbing and painful. My deep condolences to members of the bereaved family. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on loss of lives in fire mishap.
On X, Modi posted, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the collapse of a wall in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM Narendra Modi”
