Srinagar, Jul 20: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday dissolved the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

A PDP spokesperson said Ms Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday dissolved PDP’s PAC. “The PAC will be reconstituted in near future,” he said.

The decision comes days after PDP’s founding member Mohammed Khalil Bandh resigned from the party’s primary membership, saying that the party had upended after former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s demise.

The trouble for PDP started soon after BJP pulled out support from the coalition government in J&K, forcing Ms Mehbooba to resign from the post of chief minister. Scores of MLAs and other senior leaders openly criticised Ms Mehbooba and accused her of nepotism. Then, the senior leaders, including some founding members of the party, resigned from PDP and joined other political parties.

Ms Mehbooba also lost the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, once considered as the stronghold of PDP, during Lok Sabha election in May this year. The PDP president was a distant third in the election. UNI ABS JAL 1056
