Around Rs 30 lk seized from Rohingya families in J&K

Jammu, Aug 9: Police have detained families of Rohingyas after around Rs 30 lakh was allegedly recovered from their possession in this winter capital of the state.

''The amount recovered is around Rs 30 lakh and it has been seized from the Rohingya families settled illegally here in Channi Himmat and Rani Talab area on city outskirts,'' a police official here said.

He said the culprits, who brought the money, are absconding, but their families have been detained after the seizure of the cash.

''The matter is being investigated and what is the source of this huge cash is also being looked into, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the culprits,'' the official added.

Many Jammu-based political parties, NGOs and social organisations have been raising voice over deportation of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals, who are illegally settled in parts of Jammu district.
