Minimarg, June 9: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday termed the breakthrough of the strategically important Zojila Tunnel a “historic achievement,” saying it will ensure all-weather connectivity between Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh while boosting economic activity, tourism, and security in the border region.
Speaking at the Zojila Eastern Portal, he congratulated the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and praised engineers and workers for completing the project under extreme weather and difficult terrain conditions.
He said improved infrastructure in remote regions has significantly contributed to development, with previously neglected areas now receiving sustained attention.
Sinha also thanked Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Ministry for executing major infrastructure projects in the region.
He added that the tunnel would strengthen national security, improve year-round connectivity, and benefit pilgrims of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra beginning July 3 by making travel safer and more convenient.
The LG expressed hope for early completion of the project, calling it a long-awaited lifeline for Ladakh’s connectivity.
