Jammu: For the first time in its history, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will organize a three-day orientation program for its Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Scheduled to take place from January 9 to January 11, the program aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of MLAs, ensuring their effective participation in the upcoming budget session and other legislative proceedings.
The orientation will be held at the Central Hall of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Complex in Jammu, starting at 11:00 AM on January 9. The event is being organized in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) under the Lok Sabha Secretariat, New Delhi. Invitations have been extended across party lines, urging all MLAs to participate in this historic initiative.
The program will begin with a welcome address by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, followed by an inaugural address by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The sessions will focus on skill development, legislative conduct, and participation in assembly proceedings. Special emphasis will be placed on helping MLAs understand the protocols and rules for Question Hour, debates, and budget discussions. Expert trainers from PRIDE and local professionals will conduct these sessions, sharing valuable insights on effective legislative practices.
This orientation is particularly significant for first-time MLAs, offering them an opportunity to learn from experienced trainers and enhance their understanding of legislative procedures.
