Kargil, May 01: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Ladakh, on Friday attended the first-ever international exhibition of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
He offered prayers and paid respect to the holy relics, which were brought to Leh from the National Museum in New Delhi for public display.
The Home Minister was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, MP Ladakh, CEC LAHDC Kargil, along with several senior officials, political leaders, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the teachings of Lord Buddha compassion, peace, and non-violence hold even greater relevance in today’s world. He also said the government remains committed to preserving Buddhist heritage and encouraging spiritual tourism in the Himalayan region.
He further noted that this Buddha Purnima holds special significance as the sacred relics have reached Ladakh after 75 years. Shah recalled that when the relics were brought earlier, very few people had the opportunity to view them due to the region’s difficult terrain and lack of proper connectivity.
He added that the situation has now changed after decades of development, and the renewed exposition of the relics on the auspicious occasion of Vaishakh Purnima would allow people from Ladakh, Kargil, and beyond regardless of faith to experience spiritual peace and draw inspiration from the teachings of Lord Buddha.
