Leh: Ladakh Buddhist Association confirmed that Thupstan Chhewang, who had been away from the Apex Body for some time and had earlier resigned, has now been reinstated to lead the body’s discussions with the government.
The decision comes after strong demands from people across all regions of Ladakh, who wanted him to return and guide the movement.
Addressing press conference, LBA President Chering Dorjay Lakrook explained that considering the overwhelming support from the public, Chhewang has agreed to lead all government-related talks. However, he has placed a key condition that political parties should not be involved in these discussions until the election process is completed. This decision is aimed at maintaining the neutrality and focus of the Apex Body during this sensitive period.
It was decided in the executive meeting that two major political parties—Congress and Aam Aadmi Party—will remain outside the discussions until the elections are over. This move is seen as necessary to ensure that political interference does not distract from the welfare-focused agenda of the community.
The President further added that this approach is not only in line with the wishes of the people but also supported by the central government.
“The public wants Thupstan Chhewang to lead these talks, and the central government too believes that he is the right person to guide this process,” he said.
The decision is expected to strengthen the unity within the community and provide a clear direction as the Apex Body continues to address key demands. By keeping political agendas at bay, the leadership aims to keep discussions transparent and focused on the needs of Ladakh’s people.
