Board, however, remains clueless over how data of students leaked

WAJAHAT SHABIR

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has lodged an FIR regarding the fake circulation of the gazette of class 12th annual exam results.

The result of the 12th class was announced on April 30. However, to much surprise, miscreants created a fake URL and fake gazette, which created confusion among the students.

Seeking an investigation in this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education has sent an official communication to the Superintendent of Police, Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone, Srinagar.

“I am directed to forward herewith a copy of the fake result gazette circulated on social media on 29-04-2024, one day ahead of the actual date of declaration of result of class 12th Annual Regular Examination 2025 and to request you to investigate the matter by locating its URL and bringing the miscreants to justice,” reads an official communication issued by Joint secretary secrecy department (Kashmir) in JKBOSE.

“The circulation of the fake gazette created a lot of confusion, causing fear and tribulations to the students and their parents as well as the JKBOSE organisation,” the official communication reads.

Talking to The News Now, a senior official at Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education said, “The result came out on the 29th. I want to clarify that. On the 29th, we had a meeting — the final meeting — and in the evening we came to know that the result had been released”.

But that was fake; it wasn’t the official result. It was shared multiple times on social media, but we clearly stated that it was fake. After that, an FIR was filed, she said.

The next day, it was also informed that the result would be officially declared at 2 PM on 30th April. Before the result was released at 2 PM, at around 1:50 PM, our Secretary held a press conference, she said.

Adding that she said, “Only after that was the actual result announced. So why was it falsely spread earlier that the result had already been declared? That was fake — it wasn’t the real result. Our real result was declared only after 2 PM on the 30th, not on the 29th”.

We’ve already registered an FIR against this fake result. We don’t know where the data came from or who was behind it — maybe hackers — but we can’t say for sure. We have no knowledge of where it came from, she said.

Before announcing the official result, we held a press conference. Our Secretary was there. That was the only real result. Before that, we had even issued a notification stating that the result hadn’t been declared yet. And for everything else, we’ve registered the FIR, she said.

Now, regarding the clarification process — to help the students — we’ve set up help desks at multiple locations. Students are coming and clearing their doubts. We’re addressing all their issues, she said.

Adding that she said, additionally, we have issued a notification that the Xerox (copy) window will be opened. Students can apply for Xerox copies and see for themselves where they stand and what their results are, she said.
