Srinagar, June 17: BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said the party remains committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, but the decision will be taken keeping in view the security situation on the ground.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Sharma said the party is committed to restoring statehood and that the assurance will be honoured. However, he stressed that the pace of the process would depend on the security situation prevailing in the Union Territory.
He said the government wants to see an end to violence and unrest so that a stable and peaceful atmosphere can be firmly established across Jammu and Kashmir.
Commenting on the political situation in the Union Territory, Sharma alleged that the National Conference-led coalition was facing internal disagreements and lacked the unity required for effective governance.
“The alliance is weak from within and may eventually fall because of its own problems. BJP has no plans either to bring down the government or to form an alternative administration,” he said.
