AUG 13: A soldier made the supreme sacrifice in the gunfight that broke out near the Line of Control in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
The exchange of fire began around 3:30 AM in the Churanda area of the Uri sector of Baramulla wherein soldier sustained critical wounds and later succumbed to injuries.
As per the reports, Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Troops thwarted the infiltration bid in Churunda area of Uri in Baramulla district resulting in the gunbattle.
It is learnt that the security has been beefed up in the Kashmir Valley and at the border area in view of the upcoming Independence Day.
In recent times, the security operation was in progress in Kulgam for more than 10 days and is considered the longest anti-terror operation of Jammu and Kashmir in 2025. With five terrorists believed to be holed up, it was assumed that the terrorists managed to break the cordon.
Furthermore, in Jammu Division, Kishtwar gunfight raged on Aug 10 and anti-terror operation continued for two days. The soldiers blasted a cave which was suspected to be used as hideout by ultras.
Following the massive explosion, it was unclear that terrorists were in that cave.
