AUG 5: The Supreme Court to hear a plea seeking reinstatement of Statehood to J&K on August 8.
As per the reports, the Apex Court will hear an application given the directions to Central Government to restore Statehood of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on August 8, 2025.
Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan highlighted the issue before CJI BR Gavai, emphasising it is shown as listed on August 8.
It is learnt that Gopal Sankaranarayanan urged BR Gavai not to avoid the pertinent matter in the list to which Gavai agreed.
Notably, August 5 is the sixth anniversary of the Nullification of Article 370.
Besides, the application has been submitted as miscellaneous application wherein Apex Court has espoused the Abrogation of Article 370.
In that case, the SC merely directed that the Statehood should be reinstated in the stipulated timeframe.
The applicants college teacher Zahoor Ahmed Bhat and Khurshaid Ahmed Bhat had said that regardless of assurances given in this regard, the Union Government is showing apathy towards the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, the applicants claimed that since the Assembly Elections were held devoid off any violence, it clarifies the facet that their is no hinderance in restoring the Statehood.
