AUG 1: In view of incessant rainfall, all the spillway gates of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project in Ramban have been unlocked on Friday.
Besides, the district authorities have cautioned the general public not to venture near the waterbodies.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Varunjeet Singh Charak gave an overview of an advisory note pertaining to opening of gate.
Charak said, “We have issued an advisory to the general public not to venture near the riverbank, as it could be pose potential threat.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban has issued direction to Revenue officials, Police, SDRF, and Rural Development Department officers to ensure synergy to monitor the situation along Chenab River banks.
In a bid to avoid the road crash, local authorities have been instructed to advise residents to stop spending time near the riverbanks.
Furthermore, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) officials said that with the heavy rainshowers water level in Chenab river has surged as a result of which spillways of the Baglihar Dam have been unleashed.
It is learnt that Meteorological Centre in Srinagar issued a fresh weather advisory on Thursday cautioning residents of Jammu and Kashmir regarding flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.
Pertiently, from August 1 to 3, the forecast says temperature will remain hot and humid, with isolated rain showers in a few places followed by light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely across many areas of Jammu and Kashmir from August 4 to 6, 2025.
