AUG 13: In a categoric display of dissent and resentment towards Special Intensive Revision of votes in poll-bound Bihar, the Congress announced to launch “Vote Adhikar Yatra” across the state on August 17, a mass movement to condemn the “Vote Chori”, the party said on Wednesday.
LoP Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi along with INDIA bloc leaders in Bihar will embark on “Vote Adhikar Yatra” kick-starting from August 17.
Taking to social networking site X, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced about the yatra, “The fight to protect our democracy will take place on the streets! Starting August 17th, LOP Sh. Rahul Gandh ji and INDIA parties will embark on a massive Vote Adhikar Yatra across Bihar – against the dangerous SIR exercise, and to make the battle against Vote Chori a mass movement! In this context, met INDIA bloc leaders in Sasaram today to assess our preparation, mobilisation and set up smooth coordination for the Yatra.”
It is learnt that the yatra will culminate on September 1 at Patna Gandhi Maidan in Bihar.
On Tuesday, Congress stressed upon the facet that “Vote Chori” was a “Do-or-Die” issue for them and announced its roadmap to people through “Loktantra Bachao Mashaal Marches” on August 14.
Between August 22 and September 7, the Congress will hold a “Vote Chor, Gaddhi Chhor” (Vote Thieves, Relinquish Power) rallies in all state headquarters. This will be followed by signature campaign to save right to vote between September 15 to October 15.
Scores of protests have been staged by Opposition leaders outside the Parliament against the Election Commission of India asserting the voters are being disenfranchised in Bihar as Assembly Elections are around the corner.
On August 11, several Indian Opposition leaders were detained after agitating vociferously against the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar.
