District-wide inspections in Anantnag, Ganderbal, Awantipora, Kulgam and Shopian aim to curb illegal diversion of regulated materials

SRINAGAR: Just days after the deadly Nowgam explosion that killed 9 people and left several people Jammu and Kashmir Police across multiple districts in Kashmir have intensified inspections on fertiliser outlets, chemical shops and other establishments dealing with sensitive commodities.
Police in Anantnag, Ganderbal, Awantipora, Kulgam and Shopian on Saturday carried out a coordinated and district-wide crackdown, checking stock records, scrutinising documentation and verifying storage practices to ensure that no regulated material is being diverted for unlawful use.
In Anantnag, officers conducted extensive inspections on fertiliser stores, chemical shops, car dealerships, explosive magazines and industries handling mixable raw materials. Officials examined stock registers, assessed storage conditions and reviewed the movement of sensitive items to plug potential loopholes that could be exploited for terror activities. Police said the drive was part of strengthened preventive measures following recent security concerns.
Similar surprise inspections were carried out in Ganderbal and Awantipora, where teams from various police stations, supervised by senior officers, verified licensing documents, sale registers and safety compliance in agricultural chemical outlets. Shopkeepers were sensitised about maintaining proper documentation and reporting any suspicious bulk purchases.
Police in Kulgam also undertook a comprehensive verification exercise covering fertiliser shops, chemical stores, car dealers and other sensitive establishments. Officers stressed that strict monitoring was necessary to maintain a robust security environment and prevent misuse of regulated materials.
In Shopian, a district-wide checking drive was launched targeting car dealers, automobile workshops, fertiliser shops and chemical outlets. Police teams inspected sale and purchase records, transport documentation and adherence to safety norms, emphasising that the objective was to prevent illegal diversion of materials that could pose a security threat.
