Jammu: More than 10,000 devotees from across the country have downloaded the official Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra mobile application ahead of the annual pilgrimage beginning on July 3, as authorities step up digital support to make the 57-day Yatra more accessible and organised.
Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), the application is emerging as a central information platform for pilgrims, bringing together permits, route guidance, weather alerts and emergency assistance on a single interface.
The app allows registered pilgrims to securely store their Yatra permits and access their accounts through mobile number and email-based login. Pilgrims can also use the application to view maps, check route details and receive weather updates during the journey to the holy cave shrine.
Authorities expect the digital platform to reduce dependence on physical documentation and improve access to real-time information for devotees travelling from different parts of the country.
The application also includes health advisories, help desk support, emergency contact information, guidelines on dos and don’ts and an online donation facility for pilgrims.
This year’s Shri Amarnath Yatra will continue for 57 days and conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. To ease congestion at conventional registration centres, authorities have planned on-the-spot registration facilities at the Yatri Niwas along the Tawi river in Jammu.
Registration for the pilgrimage is being conducted through designated channels with mandatory health certification and biometric verification. Pilgrims are also required to carry RFID cards during the Yatra as part of security and movement management measures.
Meanwhile, weather conditions may pose an additional challenge this season. Officials have already cautioned that July could witness above-normal rainfall, prompting authorities to advise pilgrims to monitor forecasts and follow safety advisories before beginning the trek.
With the arrival of sadhus and early batches of devotees already underway in Jammu, preparations for one of the country’s largest annual pilgrimages have entered the final phase.
Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma on Thursday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness along the southern route of the Amarnath Yatra in the Kashmir valley.
The annual pilgrimage begins on July 3.
“Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, #ArmyCdrNC, visited #Pahalgam and #Chandanwari to review the security situation and assess operational preparedness along the Southern Route ahead of the commencement of #ShriAmarnathJiYatra2026,” the Army’s Northern Command said in a post on X.
It said the Army is committed to ensuring safe pilgrimage for all devotees through seamless coordination with all stakeholders, vigilant security measures and comprehensive preparedness.
The 40-day yatra will begin on July 3 from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal.
