Education department’s Eco Clubs to spread environmental messages on social media

SRINAGAR: The Education Department in Kashmir has called for the establishment of Eco Clubs on social media to conduct timely updates on environment-related activities in schools to disseminate the message and for general awareness.
In this regard, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir has asked Chief Education Officers to reach out to school nodal of Eco Clubs (Govt. as well as Private schools) registered with the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee to create Facebook & Instagram pages in the name of their respective Eco-Clubs.
An official communiqué has been issued by the Divisional Coordinator Director of School Education Kashmir. “I am once again directed to inform you that Club & Eco establishing Youth- Club on Social Media is the need of the hour and immediate necessary steps need to be taken on this behalf”.
The social media pages should be conducted timely and updated with the environment-related activities in schools to disseminate the message and for general awareness. I am further directed to request you kindly submit the information regarding the subject as per the below-given format District, Tehsil, Name of the Facebook, Instagram, and name of the remarks by or before 10th December.
It is pertinent to mention here that last month Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) office of the Regional Director Kashmir had written to the Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, J&K, Jammu and the Director, School Education Department, Kashmir over the establishment/ registration of Eco-clubs on social media Platform.
To attract public attention and support, young girls and boys from NGC take up environmental awareness activities and outreach activities for an environmental cause or environmental intervention. Water harvesting, plantation, and composting of bio-degradable waste are popular activities in the NGC school, and eco-clubs, JKPCC said.
Keeping in view the importance of establishing Youth-club & Eco-club on Social media by Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges is a need of the hour to help in providing good awareness in our society, the department said.
“The changes in the society like urbanization, technological advancement and effects of mass media have led to the need that Educational Institutions should not only be nurturing the cognitive development of its students”, the JKPCC had said.
