Jammu: In a heated discussion at the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, MLA Mehraj Malik voiced serious concerns regarding the alleged illegal construction of a BJP office in Kathua.
He claimed that the office was being built on government land, calling for immediate action against the violation. Malik emphasized that such developments occurred under the watch of certain authorities and questioned their right to criticize others.
Raising the issue of ambulance services in Kathua, Malik pointed out that auto-rickshaw ambulances operating in the area have a speed limit of just 30 km/h.
He expressed concern that at such speeds, patients would struggle to reach Jammu hospitals in a timely manner, posing a serious risk to their lives.
Malik further addressed issues related to illegal mining, urging the Deputy Chief Minister to form a dedicated team to oversee royalty collection.
He highlighted significant revenue losses in recent years due to corruption in the mining sector.
Additionally, he called for faster tendering processes in Public Works Department (PWD) projects to ensure timely completion of infrastructure developments.
On the subject of labor rights, Malik condemned wage disparities.
He stressed the need to prioritize local workers in ongoing and upcoming projects to support employment opportunities in the region.
Malik also brought attention to the struggles faced by families whose land was acquired for development projects without adequate compensation.
He urged authorities to expedite pending forest clearances that have delayed crucial road construction work.
MLA Mehraj Malik called for better protection of local industries in Jammu, highlighting that the influx of cheaper goods from Punjab and Haryana has hurt local businesses.
