Srinagar, September 30: Doda MLA Mehraj Malik was marshalled out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday following a dispute with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather during a discussion on media and social media.
Malik questioned the need for discussing social media regulation, saying there was no existing law that stopped people from using social media platforms. He also asked why Assembly time was being used for the issue without a proper legal framework.
His remarks led to a heated exchange with the Speaker, who accused the MLA of creating “unnecessary scenes” in the House and ordered that he be taken out of the Assembly.
The incident took place during a broader discussion on the media and the regulation of social media platforms.
During the debate, Education and Health Minister Sakina Itoo said the Jammu and Kashmir Government was working on a new Media Policy aimed at regulating social media platforms.
