APRIL 7: On Monday, Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti came down heavily on the J&K Assembly Speaker for dismissing the motion pertaining to Waqf Bill.
Mehbooba Mufti accused Omar-led National Conference Government of yielding BJP’s alleged anti-Muslim agenda.
Taking to Twitter, “It’s profoundly disappointing that the speaker J&K Assembly has rejected the motion on the Waqf Bill. Despite securing a strong mandate, the government appears to have completely yielded to the BJP’s anti-Muslim agenda, cynically attempting to appease both sides. The National Conference (NC) could learn from Tamil Nadu’s government, which has firmly opposed the Waqf Bill.”
She added, “In J&K, the only Muslim-majority region, it’s alarming that a supposedly people-centric government lacks the courage even to debate this critical issue.”
Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at NC and dubbed the decision to dismiss the bill as “profoundly disappointing” and further added that regardless of huge mandate secured by NC Government it appears to be trying to appease both sides ignoring the needs of Muslims.
