Ludhiana/Chandigarh, June 13: BJP’s National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann government, saying that the land pooling scheme brought by the Aam Aadmi Party is not only unconstitutional but also a conspiracy to grab the land of poor farmers. Chugh demanded the immediate withdrawal of this scheme.
While campaigning in Ludhiana East Assembly constituency, Tarun Chugh met farmers from 37 villages whose more than 24,000 acres of land has been brought under the purview of this scheme. The farmers handed over a memorandum to Chugh and appealed to him to intervene and demand protection of their rights.
“This scheme, instead of compensating farmers, returns a small portion of their land and leaves them at the mercy of the market. This is not a scheme but a well-planned conspiracy to usurp the land of farmers. This is injustice to the farmers of Punjab and is completely unconstitutional,” said Chugh.
He also pointed out that more than 20% of the land in urban areas of Punjab is already lying unsold, which is a proof of the failure and mismanagement of the state government. “When the previous urban schemes have failed, how will this scheme prove beneficial for more than 80% of small land-owning farmers?” he asked.
Attacking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Chugh said the Mann government has no clear policy for farmers. He reminded that the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal had promised loan waiver and top-up on MSP of farmers before the 2022 elections, but till date not a single farmer’s loan has been waived, nor has any additional amount been given on any crop.
Chugh alleged that the Mann government was busy hosting Kejriwal and his leaders who were out on bail instead of worrying about the farmers of Punjab.
The event was held in Ludhiana West assembly constituency, where by-election is due on June 19. The event was organised by senior BJP leader Vikram Sidhu and was attended by several agricultural representatives, including hundreds of farmers from the affected villages.
Chugh said, “Now the people of Punjab and Ludhiana are completely fed up with the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP will get the support of the people — not only in this by-election but also in the 2027 assembly elections.”
