Rajouri, June 17: A 45-year-old man lost his life while undergoing treatment at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri after he was allegedly assaulted in connection with a land dispute in the Behrote area of Thanamandi in Rajouri district.
According to officials, the incident took place on June 16 at around 3:00 PM when Munir Hussain, son of Hassan Mohammad and a resident of Behrote, was allegedly attacked with wooden sticks by three members of a family following an altercation over land.
The injured man was initially shifted to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Thanamandi for treatment and was later referred to GMC Rajouri due to the seriousness of his injuries. However, he succumbed during treatment at the hospital.
Police sources said that Shamim Akhter, wife of the deceased, submitted a written complaint alleging that Mohd Razaq, Najma Kausar and Mehtab Ahmed, all residents of Behrote, were involved in the assault on her husband.
Acting on the complaint, Police Station Thanamandi registered FIR No. 77/2026 under Sections 109, 115(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A police officer said that further investigation into the case is underway.
