JAMMU, May 22: Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command today visited the TRINETRA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory in Akhnoor to assess the progress of AI-driven military technologies being developed to support the Indian Army’s modernization goals.
The visit underscored the Indian Army’s growing emphasis on integrating advanced technologies into operational systems as part of broader reforms envisioned under Army Vision 2047 and the military’s ongoing “Decade of Transformation” initiative.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma received detailed presentations on several AI-enabled applications currently under development by the formation.

Officials reportedly briefed the Army Commander on how emerging technologies, including AI-assisted analysis, predictive systems, automated data processing and intelligent decision-support mechanisms, can help commanders make quicker and more informed operational assessments in dynamic security environments.
The Northern Command chief reviewed the ongoing technological initiatives in the context of the Indian Army’s long-term transformation strategy.
Lt Gen Sharma reportedly emphasized the importance of innovation in maintaining military preparedness amid rapidly evolving threats and increasingly technology-driven conflict scenarios.
During his interaction with officers and personnel associated with the laboratory, the Army Commander appreciated the formation’s efforts to embrace advanced technologies and create practical solutions for future operational requirements.
The visit comes at a time when militaries around the world are investing heavily in artificial intelligence to improve combat efficiency, intelligence gathering, logistics and command systems.
Countries are increasingly viewing AI as a force multiplier capable of transforming both conventional and hybrid warfare.
Lt Gen Sharma’s visit to the TRINETRA AI Lab reflects a broader institutional effort to ensure the Indian Army remains technologically adaptive and operationally effective in an increasingly complex security environment.
As military operations become more data-intensive and technology-driven, investments in artificial intelligence, indigenous research and innovation ecosystems are expected to play a growing role in shaping India’s future defense posture.
The Akhnoor visit serves as another indicator of the Army’s intent to build a future-ready force capable of responding effectively to both conventional and emerging security challenges
