Samba,April 25:Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday asserted that the ongoing 100-day drug-free campaign must deliver visible and measurable results, emphasizing that the movement is aimed at creating a lasting impact across the Union Territory. He was addressing a large gathering in Samba as part of the intensified anti-drug initiative.
The Lieutenant Governor said the campaign would inspire future generations and demonstrate that collective public action can bring meaningful change. He stressed that the responsibility to overcome the drug menace lies significantly with the youth, whose determination and potential can shape a safer society. He urged them to remain committed to the right path and resist the lure of drugs.
Highlighting the need for accountability, he stated that success in the coming weeks would not be measured by rallies or slogans alone but by concrete outcomes such as the number of addicts rehabilitated, traffickers prosecuted, illegal de-addiction centres shut down, cases registered, and quantity of contraband seized. He called upon district administrations to maintain clear weekly records of progress and ensure transparency in implementation.
The Lieutenant Governor further directed Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, and other enforcement agencies to regularly review anti-drug activities and strengthen coordination among departments. He emphasized the importance of building a comprehensive support system that includes early identification of affected individuals, counselling services, treatment facilities, recovery programmes, and long-term rehabilitation.
Referring to the wider impact of drug abuse, he noted that the menace poses a serious threat to families and communities and requires a united social response. He reiterated that while strict legal action against drug networks would continue, the long-term success of the campaign depends on awareness, cooperation, and active participation of citizens.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also flagged off a bike rally and launched the Samba Cricket Premier League under the Nasha Mukt campaign, encouraging youth to engage in positive and healthy activities as part of the broader effort to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
