Jammu, Mar 16: The government of Jammu and Kashmir has rolled out the PM–Road Accident Victims Hospitalization and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme to ensure timely medical assistance to people injured in road accidents.
According to an official communication issued by the Transport Department, the scheme provides cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh per victim in more than 140 designated hospitals during the critical “Golden Hour” following an accident. The coverage will remain valid for up to seven days from the date of the accident, enabling victims to receive immediate and essential medical care.
Under the scheme, departments including Transport, Health, Police and the district administration will work in close coordination to ensure its effective implementation and a prompt response to road accident cases.
The government has also urged members of the public to immediately report road accidents to the nearest police station or control room so that victims can be shifted quickly to designated hospitals and receive treatment under the scheme.
To encourage public assistance, individuals who help rescue road accident victims — referred to as Rah-Veers or Good Samaritans — will be awarded ₹25,000 along with a Certificate of Appreciation. If more than one person assists in rescuing a victim, the reward amount will be shared equally among them.
Additionally, the government will confer 10 national-level awards of ₹1 lakh each annually to the most deserving Rah-Veers for their exemplary efforts in saving lives.
Officials said the PM-RAHAT scheme is aimed at strengthening emergency medical response and ensuring that road accident victims receive immediate treatment, thereby significantly improving their chances of survival.
