JULY 18: Former J&K Deputy CM and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh UT.
At an oath ceremony held at Ladakh Raj Niwas in Leh, Kavinder Gupta was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh HC, Justice Arun Palli.
Succeeding Brigadier BD Mishra, Gupta stands as the third LG of Union Territory Ladakh.
Pertinent to mention, R K Mathur was a bureaucrat appointed as the first LG of Ladakh in 2019.
President Draupadi Murmu appointed Kavinder Gupta as new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on July 14.
Gupta has served as Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir during BJP-PDP coalition Government. Besides, Gupta had served as Jammu Mayor for three consecutive terms from 2005- 2010.
Additionally, he has served as General Secretary of BJP and headed BJYM from 1993-1998. In his initial days of career, Gupta had served as secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and spent about 13 months in prison during the Emergency as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker.
