Shopian, August 31: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after uncovering a suspected militant hideout during a joint operation in Shopian district on Monday.
Officials said the operation was carried out in the Naikpora Memender area of Shopian following specific intelligence inputs. Jammu and Kashmir Police, 44 Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF jointly participated in the operation.
During searches in an orchard, the security team located and busted the hideout. The recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a pistol, one grenade and six rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the recovered weapons and establish their intended use
