Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for its outstanding efforts in community engagement and youth empowerment.

Addressing the closing ceremony of Jashn-e-Dal, a prestigious water sports event organized by the J&K Police at Dal Lake, Srinagar, he commended the force for its dedication to nation-building, ensuring public safety, and promoting harmony among young people.

Congratulating the police for their role in upholding the rule of law and combating terrorism, the LG said, “Jammu Kashmir Police’s proactive engagement with communities and empowerment of youth is laudable. It has been working with integrity and dedication to protect the nation’s internal security.”

Lieutenant Governor highlighted that such initiatives go beyond sports. “Events like Jashn-e-Dal, Pedal for Peace, and various marathons, football, and cricket tournaments are more than just sports activities. Each tournament is a symbol of a new and positive chapter for our youth,” he remarked.

He applauded the organization of the tournament at the iconic Dal Lake, underlining its importance in fostering unity, harmony, and camaraderie among athletes.

“Jammu and Kashmir Police is serving as a guardian for the youth of Jammu Kashmir. It is committed to providing opportunities, resources, support, and mentorship to the youth, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and inclusive development,” he added.

Calling upon athletes to serve as role models, the LG urged them to inspire young people to pursue their goals while staying away from drugs and other harmful influences.

“Sports is a unifying force. I want our youth to act as powerful agents of change by leveraging their energy, discipline, perseverance, and creativity,” he said.

The LG also encouraged young people to actively participate in community development, nation-building, and climate change awareness programs.

He praised the positive results achieved by public participation in preserving lakes, rivers, and natural resources, stating, “This change is a reminder to the young generation that ponds, rivers, and lakes are an integral part of our life and necessary for our existence.”

He called upon the youth to lead community initiatives during the upcoming Sewa Parv, starting September 17, 2025.

“Our young volunteers, along with J&K Police, should be ready to take part in cleanliness campaigns, tree plantation programs, and helping weaker sections of society,” he emphasized.

At the closing ceremony, the LG took the ceremonial salute at a spectacular pedal pass and felicitated the winners of the event. The three-day competition saw the participation of around 750 athletes competing in various water sports disciplines.

The ceremony was attended by senior police and civil administration officials, including DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special DG Coordination PHQ S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Armed Anand Jain, sports personalities, members of water sports associations and clubs, and a large number of youth.
