Jammu, October 31, 2025 — The Jammu & Kashmir government is grappling with a significant staffing shortfall, with 17,953 posts currently vacant across 32 departments, according to official data tabled in the Legislative Assembly.
Of these, 2,960 are gazetted posts, which include senior administrative and technical roles, while 14,993 are non-gazetted positions, affecting clerical, field-level, and support services. The shortage has raised concerns about service delivery, administrative efficiency, and delays in public-facing operations.

Legislators across party lines urged the government to expedite recruitment processes through the JKPSC and JKSSB, and to prioritize filling critical vacancies that impact healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
The General Administration Department (GAD) assured the House that steps are being taken to streamline recruitment, including digitized application systems, fast-track selection panels, and revised eligibility norms to attract qualified candidates.
