Jammu, Feb 5: In a significant move to strengthen enforcement against immoral trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has issued a notification appointing Station House Officers (SHOs), Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) as Special Police Officers within their respective jurisdictions.
The notification, issued under Section 13(1) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, supersedes all previous orders on the subject. As per the directive, all SHOs not below the rank of Inspector, as well as SDPOs and DySPs at J&K Police Headquarters, will now serve as Special Police Officers for enforcing the provisions of the Act.
The order, signed by Chandraker Bharti, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, aims to enhance the policing framework to tackle human trafficking and related offenses more effectively.
