‘UT emerged as a leader in implementing innovative initiatives that are being cited as models by other states’

Jammu: Asserting that various innovative steps have been taken to transform the agricultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, including the launch of the flagship project Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that for the last three consecutive years, J&K has set a record of productivity in agriculture and allied sectors.

Speaking at the ‘Krishak Mela 2025’ held at SKUAST Jammu’s R.S. Pura campus, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the region’s transformation in agriculture under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He stated that J&K, once dependent on adopting agricultural models from other states, has now emerged as a leader in innovative initiatives, setting examples for other regions to follow.

“We have successfully introduced new policies, sustainable practices, and advanced technologies to boost productivity and make agriculture more viable,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Highlighting key achievements, LG Sinha informed that several traditional products from J&K have secured GI tags, enhancing their market value and authenticity. Efforts are ongoing to obtain GI recognition for more local products, which will further increase the region’s export potential.

During the event, LG Sinha inaugurated four new facilities at SKUAST Jammu to strengthen education, research, and farmer training. These include a Fully Automated Poultry Production Unit, a PG Lab on Poultry Research, the Sanskriti PG Girls’ Hostel, a Faculty Club, and Residential Quarters.

The Lieutenant Governor also praised SKUAST Jammu for successfully running outreach programs through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and research stations. He urged the university to expand its direct engagement with farmers to ensure research-driven innovations reach the grassroots.

The SKUAST-Jammu Incubation Centre has already incubated over 100 youths and supported 35 startups with assistance from the Union Ministry of Agriculture. LG Sinha encouraged continued efforts to further strengthen these initiatives and drive economic growth in the agriculture sector.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor visited stalls set up by farmers, Farmers Producers Organizations, and various line departments. He also launched the mobile app Radio Kissan SKUAST Jammu 90.8 FM and released the publication “Krishi Adharit Udhyamon ke Madhyam Se: Sashakt aur Smriddh Bhavishya ki Kheti”, compiled and edited by KVK Jammu.

The Krishak Mela 2025 provided a platform for farmers, scientists, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, explore modern agricultural technologies, and promote sustainable farming practices.
