Jammu: Jammu Police has achieved a significant breakthrough by recovering stolen property worth approximately ₹37 lakh in connection with multiple theft cases across the city. During a press conference, senior police officials revealed the details of the recoveries and stressed the importance of tenant and house help verification to prevent similar incidents.
One of the major recoveries was linked to a high-profile theft in the Janipur area, where a house help hired through an agency allegedly stole two gold bangles worth ₹6.9 lakh, an Apple iPad valued at ₹40,000, two mobile phones worth ₹1 lakh, and three pairs of branded shoes. The investigation, led by PSI Sharaj Ahmed under the supervision of SHO Vikram, resulted in the arrest of the accused and the successful recovery of the stolen items.
In another case, police recovered a stolen Bullet motorcycle in Janipur, tracing it back to Dheeraj Singh from Gummat, who already had over 25 FIRs registered against him. Similarly, in Bakshi Nagar, a man reportedly entered a house, threatened a child, and fled with 175 grams of gold, 200 grams of silver, and ₹2 lakh in cash. The swift action of the police, under DSP and Inspector Man Singh’s leadership, led to the recovery of 160 grams of gold, 200 grams of silver, ₹1.7 lakh in cash, the weapon used in the crime, and the vehicle involved.
Further recoveries included gold jewelry worth ₹1 lakh and a mobile phone from another theft case in Bakshi Nagar, along with two stolen scooters and an e-rickshaw recovered from GMC Jammu.
Addressing the media, officials highlighted the critical role of tenant and house help verification in preventing such crimes. “Proper documentation and police verification can help identify the background of individuals and avoid potential threats,” said a senior officer. The police also emphasized the importance of installing high-quality CCTV cameras, as most recoveries were made possible through surveillance footage.
