Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice President and former minister Priya Sethi has raised concerns over what she described as “regional bias” in the decision to establish the newly sanctioned Law University in Budgam, Kashmir.
Sethi questioned the rationale behind placing the institution exclusively in Budgam, pointing out that such decisions undermine the principle of balanced development across the Union Territory. She said while the government often speaks about equitable progress for both regions, actions like these create visible disparities.
“Education is the foundation of progress, and higher education institutions like a Law University are vital for empowering our youth,” she said. “It is important that development remains balanced and inclusive. Jammu, like any other region, deserves its fair share in such significant educational initiatives.”
The former education minister warned that regional imbalances in development could have long-term social and economic repercussions. She urged policymakers to adopt a more equitable approach while planning future projects and to involve local representatives from Jammu in the decision-making process.
“This is not about politics; it’s about fairness, opportunity, and ensuring that no region feels left behind,” she emphasized.
Her remarks have reignited discussions on social and political platforms over the need for balanced development and equitable distribution of educational infrastructure across all districts of the Union Territory.
