Jammu:Health workers had initially given a call for a three-day protest in support of their long-pending demands. However, as no significant response was received from the authorities, the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation on Saturday announced the extension of the ongoing strike by another 72 hours, a move that has begun to affect healthcare services and caused inconvenience to the general public.
Talking to The News Now, District President of the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation, Ravinder Singh, said that the decision to extend the strike was taken out of compulsion as the government has failed to take any concrete steps to address their issues. He stated that despite repeated appeals and representations to the concerned authorities, there has been no meaningful progress, leaving employees frustrated and uncertain about their future.
“We regret the inconvenience being caused to the people due to the ongoing strike, but we also have genuine demands that need to be fulfilled,” Singh said. He emphasized that the federation has always tried to resolve the matter through dialogue, but the continued silence from the government has forced them to intensify their protest.
He further added that the employees remain committed to their cause and will continue their agitation until their demands are met. The federation once again urged the government to intervene immediately and hold meaningful discussions to resolve the issue at the earliest in the interest of both employees and the public.
