MARCH 26: In the recent development, Central Government appoints former Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra as a full-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
65-year-old Sanjay Kumar Mishra served as ED chief till September 15, 2023 after the Supreme Court cut back his extended tenure after the petitions filed against multiple extensions granted to him by the Government.
As per the Government order issued, Sanjay Mishra, a 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Income Tax cadre, will serve as a full-time member of the EAC-PM after the consent of his appointment by the Prime Minister.
Pertinent to mention, the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister is an independent body. The body is framed to give advice on economic related issues to the Government of India, specifically to the Prime Minister.
