Srinagar, June 2: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has reached out to political, social, and community leaders across Jammu and Kashmir, calling for a united effort to engage with the Central Government on matters concerning the region’s future.
In letters sent to leaders representing different political parties and organizations, Mufti proposed a collective meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the aspirations and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the progress made by Ladakh’s civil society groups through continued discussions with New Delhi, she said the experience illustrates the value of dialogue in resolving complex issues and building trust.
Mufti stated that many people in Jammu and Kashmir are facing uncertainty and frustration, making it essential for leaders to rise above political divisions and work together. She argued that safeguarding democratic rights, ensuring public confidence, and addressing regional concerns require constructive engagement with the Union Government.
Calling for a common platform, she urged leaders from all backgrounds to set aside differences and focus on a shared objective of securing justice, dignity, and opportunities for the people.
According to Mufti, such an initiative should be guided by public interest rather than political considerations. She stressed that a united voice would send a strong message about the need for meaningful and continuous dialogue between Jammu and Kashmir and the Centre.
The PDP president also expressed hope that leaders across party lines would support efforts aimed at achieving a stable, inclusive, and constitutionally protected future for the region.
