Anantnag, July 31: The Food Safety Department has banned the sale of five ghee products in Anantnag after laboratory testing found them unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The action follows a special enforcement drive carried out across the district in June 2026 on the directions of the Commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, Jammu and Kashmir. During the campaign, officials collected 18 samples of various ghee brands from markets and commercial establishments and sent them to the National Food Laboratory (NFL), Ghaziabad, for testing.
According to the laboratory report, five samples failed the safety standards. These include Desi Ghee of Dairy Mohan (Batch No. 05), Apna Dairy Milk (Batch No. DM 06), Shahi Taj (Batch No. 134A), Nandni (Batch No. ND 28), and Cow Gee of Milk Bite (Batch No. 137).
Following the test results, the Designated Officer, Food Safety, Anantnag, ordered an immediate prohibition on the sale of these products across the district. The ban will remain in effect until further orders.
The department has advised consumers to be cautious while purchasing ghee and other food items and asked food business operators to strictly follow the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Officials said regular inspections and enforcement drives will continue to ensure that safe and quality food products are available in the district.
