Jammu May 8: The Central Government has given Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha the authority to take decisions related to telecom services during emergencies or situations affecting public safety
The decision was issued through an official notification published in the Gazette of India. According to the notification, the President of India has empowered the Lieutenant Governor to carry out the functions of the state government under Section 20(2) of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, in Jammu and Kashmir.
The notification said these powers were granted by the President of India and will remain in place until further orders.
The law allows authorities to temporarily control telecom networks and services in matters linked to national security, public order and public safety.
Officials said the powers will be exercised under Article 239(1) of the Constitution, which governs Union Territories like Jammu and Kashmir.
