Srinagar, April 18:A fire broke out in a five-storey commercial building near the Lal Chowk city centre on Saturday, triggering panic in the busy market area. However, timely intervention by firefighting teams helped contain the blaze before it could spread to adjoining structures in the congested locality, officials said.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to control the flames. During the firefighting process, 19 gas cylinders were recovered from the building, preventing the situation from turning more serious. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Preliminary information indicates that the fire started from the attic portion of the building, where a restaurant kitchen is located. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
Firefighters used specialised equipment, including a hydraulic platform, to reach the affected area and successfully bring the fire under control, thereby minimising damage to the property.
Authorities have informed the concerned police station about the incident, and necessary procedures have been initiated. Meanwhile, the public has been advised to avoid storing flammable materials in homes and commercial establishments and to follow basic fire safety measures to prevent such incidents.
