Srinagar, April 24: President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, on Friday said that the fight against drug addiction cannot be won by the government alone and called for active participation from parents and society to curb the growing problem.
He warned that substance abuse has become a serious concern and stressed that meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective responsibility. According to him, the cooperation of families and communities remains the most crucial factor in reducing the spread and impact of drug addiction.
The former chief minister also commented on political developments, asserting that his party has successfully checked the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kashmir while referring to electoral trends in other parts of the country.
He predicted that Mamata Banerjee is likely to secure victory in West Bengal, while the Indian National Congress is performing strongly in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, he said the Congress, in alliance with the party led by M. K. Stalin, is expected to achieve electoral success. He attributed these anticipated outcomes to what he described as divine blessings.
Turning to international issues, Abdullah urged the global community to intensify efforts to bring an end to ongoing conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, warning that prolonged instability could have far-reaching consequences worldwide. He stressed that restoring peace is essential to prevent further human suffering and escalation.
Speaking on the conflict, he said he hopes the United States has realized that Israel made mistakes and questioned the forces that pushed it into the current situation. He also called on major powers, including China and Russia, to play a constructive role in reducing tensions and bringing the conflict to an early end.
