Srinagar | April 17: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday voiced strong concerns over the Women’s Reservation Bill, claiming that the government had earlier withdrawn the legislation due to doubts about securing the required two-thirds majority. He said the move reflected uncertainty within the ruling establishment and added that public dissatisfaction with the bill remains widespread.
Commenting on the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah alleged that the process had been carried out in an unfair manner, creating fresh concerns among the people. He urged the authorities to reconsider the approach, saying the manner in which the proposal was pushed forward during a late-night session had further deepened public anxiety.
Abdullah maintained that the government should review the bill and listen to the sentiments of the people, stressing that decisions affecting democratic representation must be taken with transparency and public confidence in mind.
