Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, registering major action against peddlers and illicit networks across the Union Territory.
Launched on April 11, 2026, the campaign being spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has focused on dismantling narcotics supply chains, targeting financial assets of offenders, and strengthening public awareness against substance abuse.
Sources said the drive has been placed on top priority by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, who has chaired multiple review meetings and visited districts to monitor enforcement outcomes.
During the first 15 days (April 11–26), police registered 378 cases under the NDPS Act and allied laws and booked 431 drug peddlers. Authorities also seized around 478 kg of narcotic drugs along with over 13,000 tablets, capsules and bottles of psychotropic substances, valued at approximately ₹7 crore.
In parallel, a large quantity of contraband was destroyed, including 4,776 kg of narcotics and 6,493 units of psychotropic substances, officials said.
Financial investigations have led to the attachment of 16 movable properties worth ₹78.32 lakh and 17 immovable properties valued at over ₹9.13 crore. Surveillance is ongoing on 52 identified kingpins and nearly 2,900 drug peddlers across the UT.
The campaign has also included large-scale awareness initiatives, with 994 programmes conducted reaching thousands of participants. Around 1,500 investigating officers and 15 prosecutors have been trained to strengthen enforcement and prosecution capacity.
As part of regulatory action, 2,274 establishments were inspected, resulting in corrective measures. Authorities also cancelled 88 driving licences and 19 vehicle registrations linked to drug-related offences. In addition, police have challenged 21 bail orders and one acquittal order in higher courts.
Officials said the sustained, multi-pronged approach is aimed at tightening the noose around the drug ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
