Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the historic role of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in nurturing the spirit of the freedom movement and shaping modern India.
Addressing the South India BHU Alumni Meet at IICT Auditorium, Hyderabad, he highlighted the university’s enduring legacy and its pivotal role in nation-building.
LG noted that BHU, founded in 1916 by Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, played a crucial role in awakening national consciousness. “After Independence, it became a catalyst for socio-economic and industrial transformation, making invaluable contributions toward building a strong and self-reliant India,” he said.
He further stated that Mahamana’s ideals were based on three key objectives—liberating India, rebuilding industries for a developed nation, and preparing the youth with the best education system. These principles, he remarked, laid the foundation for a modern and self-sufficient India.
LG highlighted that BHU not only preserved India’s core traditions and values but also transformed the country’s education system. He called it a breeding ground for revolutionary ideas, inspiring students to become agents of change.
Quoting a monograph prepared during Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, he said, “BHU has emerged as an important partner in India’s economic development. It has instilled a sense of patriotism and activism in its students, many of whom played a significant role in India’s fight for freedom. The university has also empowered women through education, defying the colonial regime and shaping future leaders.”
LG also acknowledged BHU’s distinguished alumni for their groundbreaking contributions to various fields worldwide. He praised their role in scientific advancements, socio-economic reforms, and fostering global innovation.
On the occasion, he extended heartfelt greetings to everyone on Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja, celebrating the spirit of knowledge and wisdom.
