AUG 20: Amid huge uproar by the opposition leaders, Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced three contentious bills – the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill – in the Lok Sabha.
The bill proposes the elimination of Prime Minister, Chief Minister and any other minister from their postion if they have been detained for straight thirty days for the offence that includes jail term of five or more years.
After the bills were tabled in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, categorically rejecting the bill prompting the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the proceedings till 3 PM.
“It is utterly unconstitutional. It accords executive agencies power to play judge, jury and executioner,” said Owaisi, adding, the bill aims to empower the unelected.”
Congress MP Manish Tewari termed the bill “draconian law”.
“Indian Constitution bats for the law that you are innocent until you are proven guilty. This bill challenges this fact. IT makes executive agency the helm of Prime Minister.” Tiwari said after Amit Shah tabled the bills.
Earlier, the National Conference Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar termed it undemocratic and said it is like orchestrating the oppression and snatching the right from the elected representative.
Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party hailed the bill and said will play pivotal part in punishing the criminal mindset in power.
