Jammu, October 14: Young athletes across Jammu and Samba took part in a series of sporting activities, including tennis ball cricket, badminton and gymnastics, providing them with opportunities to display their abilities and gain experience through organised competitions.
The District Jammu Tennis Ball Cricket Championship began at M.A. Stadium, Jammu, bringing together players from schools and clubs across the district. The two-day event is being organised by the District Jammu Tennis Ball Cricket Association under the aegis of the J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association and is recognised by the J&K Sports Council.
The championship features four categories Under-12, Under-14, Under-17 and Senior with the aim of identifying promising players and encouraging participation in the sport among different age groups.
In Samba, more than 70 boys and girls participated in special summer badminton activities held at the Sports Stadium on October 12 under the J&K Sports Council’s My Youth My Pride initiative. The matches also attracted more than 180 spectators, giving young players an opportunity to compete and improve their skills.
Gymnastics was another highlight in Samba, where the J&K Gymnastics Association, in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, organised a district-level competition at the Indoor Complex. Around 50 boys and girls participated in the event. Medals and certificates were presented to participants in recognition of their performances and to encourage their continued involvement in the sport.
The events highlight the role of district-level competitions in providing young people with access to organised sports and opportunities to develop their abilities. They also encourage physical fitness, discipline and a competitive spirit among participants.
Through initiatives such as My Youth My Pride and support for local sporting events, the J&K Sports Council and sports associations are working to expand youth participation and identify emerging talent across districts.
These activities provide a platform for young athletes to gain competitive experience, strengthen their skills and work towards participating in higher-level sporting competitions.
