Jamm: The Selection Committee meeting for induction of officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police into the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS) is likely to be held in the first week of August, sources said.

The meeting will consider induction against eight vacancies already determined for the years 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

As per the established procedure, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) convenes the Selection Committee meeting involving all concerned stakeholders, where the service records and Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of eligible officers are examined in accordance with Regulation 5(4) of the Promotion Regulations.

Based on the recommendations of the committee, officers included in the Select List are appointed to the Indian Police Service by the Union Government.

According to official figures, the authorised strength of the AGMUT Cadre (Jammu and Kashmir segment) as on January 1, 2026, stands at 47 posts. Of these, 34 posts are currently filled, leaving 13 clear vacancies.

Out of the 13 vacancies, eight have already been earmarked for Select Lists of 2021 to 2024, while five additional vacancies have arisen during 2025 and are required to be determined for the Select List of that year.

Of the five vacancies identified for 2025, three emerged following the cadre review of the AGMUT cadre notified on January 3, 2025, while two vacancies arose due to the retirement of promotee IPS officers during the same year.

The upcoming Selection Committee meeting is expected to pave the way for induction of eligible J&K Police officers into the IPS after completion of the required scrutiny and selection process.
